Pan Pac Forest Products Ltd has recently installed a Cumberland developed pith mark detection and positioning system for the sawmill operations. The user interface also incorporates an image capture facility, user pith location via the touch screen computer and cant dimensioning algorithms.

Lowe Corporation utilises voice recognition system pelt processing industry with excellent results. Cumberland has recently implemented a trial voice based grading system for the automated collection of grading data thereby permitting the operator to grade the skins faster and with greater accuracy. Also incorporated into the system is an area measurement camera system which calculates the total area of the skin in sq/ft.

High Speed Lumber Marking progress

Thanks to Ministry of Science & Innovation co-funding, Cumberland’s super high speed lumber marking & tracking system R&D project is making good progress. Technical challenges include the patch application and laser printing components at line speeds of up to 800m/minute. Already we have developed and proven a new high speed electronic spraygun controller capable of sub-microsecond switching.
